My name is Juan Antonio Añel Cabanelas. I am an Associate Professor in Earth Physics in the EPhysLab in the Universidade de Vigo, in Ourense. Other responsibilities include:

Research: climate change impacts, upper troposphere-lower stratosphere, renewable energy, extreme weather, atmospheric dynamics, recovery of old meteorological data, computational sciences, sustainability.

** Current Students:**

  • Víctor Manuel Chávez Pérez - PhD in Physics - Impacts of Model Resolution on Stratospheric Sudden Warmings
  • Manuel Fernández González - PhD in Physics - Climate change impacts on hydropower
  • Diego Antonio Pérez Montes - PhD in Computational Sciences - Cloud computing for geosciences
  • Michael García Rodríguez - PhD in Computational Sciences - Reproducibility of Global Climate Models
  • Susana Bayo Besteiro - PhD in Physics - Climate services for the energy sector
  • Celia Pérez Souto - PhD in Physics - Impacts of climate change in the structure of the middle and upper atmosphere

Memberships:

I like computers, bonsais, football, chess, chocolate and practice Taekwondo.

Conflicts of interest: My research has been funded primarily by public bodies (Government of Spain, Government of Galicia, Universidade de Vigo and the University of Oxford). I have conducted reports and training on risks, impact and adaptation to climate change for companies like Royal Bank of Scotland or Inditex. Likewise, I have also obtained financing from companies such as Naturgy and Acciona to study the impact of climate change on renewable energies. Others like the Gulbenkian Foundation, Google or Microsoft have supported my research with small grants and calculation resources through competitive calls.
None of the entities or organizations that have financed or financed my scientific work have influenced the independence of my opinions and the research results that respond to empirical evidence and are objective.
